They basically want to change the game to appeal to casuals, but nothing about modern Quake appeals to them so they essentially want to create a game that resembles Quake just enough they can call it Quake for marketing purposes. A modern Quake wouldn't be worthy of the name Quake without dm6.
It makes perfect sense. Perhaps next time put more effort in than just saying 'that makes no sense'. They've even included a conversion of campgrounds and it doesn't even play like the original map any more because of how stacks and control just don't matter any more. Games dead anyway. Who got fragged first in the arena becomes 'infected'. Infected state forces a rather grim looking model on player accompanied by auto-response audible deep moans of agony to alert anyone coming nearby.
